The shrubs…

They are gone!  Okay, not so much gone as they are piled up on the side of the driveway.  But they are gone from their spot in front on my steps.  Hard work, my friends, hard work (I am channeling my inner John McCain).

When I went out to smite them on Monday, I just trimmed them.  From the trimming, I started cutting one side down as far as I could, about a foot high.  On Tuesday I did the same to the other side.  On Wednesday I took my trusty shovel and started to dig up the individual hedge parts.  There were about seven, I think.  They came out a whole lot easier than I had expected.

We ended up going to Lowe’s last weekend and buying bigger pots of our previously selected Arborvitae.  We hope it will fill in faster.

Of course, it means I am going to have to dig bigger, deeper holes, but I think I am up to the challenge.

So, S and I pronounce Arborvitae as arbor-ve-ta.  When I told my mother what we were planting she said it was arbor-vie-ta.  Who knows?

  1. As for a tree pronunciation the arborvitae is pronounced differently in various parts of the country. I should look it up and find out the correct pronunciation. But if I did that then I would be correcting everyone, no fun in that.

  2. my neighbor corrected me so i looked it up and have been wondering if i should tell him he was wrong. it’s “arborvitee”
